Colocasia also called Taro Root is a stuffy, fleshy underground root. It is filled with numerous nutrients and is consumed as a staple food. It is oval or globular in form with a hairy coating on its skin and a whitish yellow flesh. The outer skin is first take away before using it for any preparation. Also, it is always consumed after food preparation and never eaten raw.

Colocasia possesses more complex carbohydrates like amylopectin and amylase, that contribute to slow digestion, and regulates blood glucose levels. Regular consumption of colocasia promotes good digestion, prevents constipation and regulates hypertension. It has been found to be especially beneficial in treating cancers of the lung and the oral cavity.
They can be roasted, fried, or boiled and eaten as a vegetable or combined with other veggies.
